Controversies and scandals

Brenda Biya is widely known in Cameroon for the controversy she creates once a while with her posts or activities. Some of these moments include the following;

  • One of the earliest occurred in 2016 when she was decrying racism against her and mentioned the cost of her fare from the University to her residence – $400 which is approximately 220,000 FCFA according to current exchange rates. Expecting pity from her country men, most Cameroonians where interested in how much she spent as a onetime taxi fare calling it Tax payers’ money that she is squandering.
  • In the same year, she posted a video of herself smoking. She was met with criticism as she was expected to act as a role model to most of her mates and juniors since she was the president’s daughter.
  • In 2019, the presidential couple and Brenda Biya hired Wizkid (StarBoy) – a Nigerian musician for a private New Year party. Many were calculating the cost of the private party and others were asking why not a Cameroonian musician.
  • One of the latest source of controversy is her online wig shop and saloon. While others were appreciating her for the initiative, others were asking where she took the capital to start such a business and others wondered why she didn’t start the business in Cameroon

She has been described as Her Father’s lawyer by some because of some of her post like “We will only succeed in developing Cameroon when Cameroonians understand that we are all brothers and sisters”, ” Don’t judge, every human is as he is”. She also revealed that she suffers from Graves’ disease and Thyroid disorders which could be an explanation for the mood swings. More is expected from the daughter of the nation.
