GCE Results 2022 STATISTICS

According to statistics gathered from the CGCE board, a total number of 110,916 candidates registered for the examination this 2022, while 98,015 sat. Meanwhile, 66,846 passed recording a percentage pass rate of 74.24, as compared to 62.27% recorded in 2018. Hence, there was an 11.97 percent increase in 2022.

Here’s the breakdown:
Advanced Levels Generals, there was 78.36% pass
A/L Technicals = 89.34%
O/L Generals = 62.15%
O/L Technicals = 67.34%

The results witnessed a drastic increase compared to 2018.

Where some 46000 registered and 43000 sat and those who passed where 29000 giving a percentage passed of 66.52%.

A press communiqué has been made available today to Check and Download 2022 GCE results O and A Levels. The GCE 2022 which began on the 29th of June ran on smoothly till its end on Thursday 15th July. The Cameroon GCE Board is pleased to bring the statistics of the national exam for both the ordinary and advanced levels. Candidates from all over the national territory finally get the chance to know what their results are.

Created in 1993, the Cameroon GCE took its roots from London and has since then strived to give an equitable evaluation for students under the Anglophone section in the country. The journey has not been smooth but the Board has over the years gained experience in the administration of the exam. With divisions and subsequent units, the GCE Board offers internationally recognized certificates in the secondary school milieu.

Every year, the Board selects and sets up the composition of the examination which for years now runs between May and July dependent on the academic year program. Candidates are distributed to various examination centers over the national territory under the keen supervision of the Board authorities. Marking, deliberation, and compilation follow shortly after the end of the examinations. We shall begin by looking at the grading system applied by the Cameroon GCE Board.

1. What is the grading system of the GCE? 

Letters are utilized for this and beneath are the evaluating frameworks applied by the Cameroon GCE (General Certificate of Education) board for the assessments it regulates: 

The grading scale of the GCE O Level: A, B, C, D, E, U 

The passing grades are represented by letters A, B, and C, with the highest grade being grade A grade and the least being grade C. Letter U which represents the lowest grade is eliminatory or unclassified and is as such a fail grade. Grades lower than C are failed grades and do not appear on the result slip. 

The grading scale of the GCE A Level: A, B, C, D, E, O, or F 

1. O Level General Grading System

A pass is shown by the Grades A to E of Which Grade A is the most elevated and Grade E the least. An applicant with Grades A, B, or C has attained the norm of the subject pass at the Ordinary Level. Grades D and E show a low score level and don’t address a pass. Grade E being the least of these pass grades decided by the Board to be acceptable and recorded. Other grades beneath the standard Grade E will be unclassified and will not be noted on the certificate.

1. Advanced Level General Grading System

A passing grade here is demonstrated by the Grades A to E of which Grade A is the most noteworthy and Grade E the least. A candidate having Grades A, B, C, D or E has attained the norm of a subject pass at the Advanced Level. Grade F shows a lower grade level and does not count as a pass. Grade F is the most minimal grade decided by the Board to be recorded on the result slip. Grades beneath the standard Grade F will be unclassified and will not be noted on the endorsement.

Statement of results performance

Upon completion of marking, compilation, and deliberation, a statement of results performance is transferred to each genuine registration establishment or registration center. 

Such proclamations are not sent to applicants who sat for the exams, their parents, or anybody professing to follow up for their sake. It is considered an extra service and thus necessitates an expense to be obtained by third parties.

Inquiries upon Results Proclamation

The stamping of papers by the Board or its inspectors and the consequences of such checking is considered conclusive and restricting on all candidates. The Board will not unless in its outright caution, go into correspondence about exam results with candidates or their guardians or their parents or any person professing to act in locos guardians. 

Inquiries concerning the candidate exam results or candidate info on the result slip are first referred to the Chief of Center. In some exceptional situations, a direct request can be sent from the candidate or parents without prior notification to the chief of center. This applies when the grades proclaimed do not reflect the expected results of the candidate based on the coursework obtained in school.

Subtleties of the technique for managing such inquiries and the size of charges might be acquired from the Board. 

Grant of Certificates 

The award of exam certificates is solely dependent on the discretion of the Board and the Board has no responsibility towards candidates regarding the retention or wiping out of any certificate. 

Though handed over to individual candidates, the certificates remain the property of the GCE Board. In case of fraud or any modification on them, the Board will be in full power to take legal action against the perpetrators.

Every one of the subjects taken and passed at a similar assessment will be remembered for a solitary declaration. An applicant who composes both GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level, and who justifies a testament at each level, will get a different certificate for each level. 

Issue of Certificates 

The original candidate certificates are made available at registration centers at least six (6) months after the official publication of results. The responsibility to distribute the certificates to candidates or their representatives is incumbent on the various Chiefs of Centers. This is done upon the presentation of a valid identification paper. It is required of candidates to collect their certificates in the same year of publication of results. Generally, candidates are expected to do so by March latest since failure to do so will lead to a return of the certificate to the GCE Board.

External candidates are required to bring along their National Identity Card when coming for their certificates. At the end of the year of publication, certificates are returned to the Board. Once returned, candidates desiring to get in possession of their certificates will have to go to the headquarters of the GCE Board in person. Upon payment of a fee, this can be done at the Board’s main Office in Buea or the Bamenda Regional Office.

Requesting a duplicate certificate or duplicate result slip

Upon presentation of satisfactory evidence on the candidate’s identity, a duplicate of the GCE certificate or results slip. A time gap equivalent to two working days is needed by the Board to issue the duplicate.

How to apply for duplicate certificates or results slips

All demands for duplication of certificates or results slips must be addressed to the Registrar of the GCE Board. Such demand or application must be accompanied by the documents below;

A certificate of Loss obtained from the police or any competent authority.

A duplicate certificate or results slip fee as the terms the Council of the GCE Board

• The GCE O Level 

The GCE Board Cameroon is composed of numerous divisions and units. The Ordinary Level unit falls under the Division of Examination. The Deputy Registrar in charge of Examinations heads the Division of Examination while an appointed Examination Officer heads the ordinary Level unit. The participation of the unit in the Board comprises the following responsibilities and duties;

• Preparation of Registration Materials and their distribution.
• Reception of registration forms from registration centers and their processing.
• Moderation of test items.
• Supervision of exam question proofreading exercise.
• Costing of practical documents and their preparation.
• Creation and identification of Registration and Examination centers.
• Supervision and monitoring of examinations: both written and practical.
• Creation of marking centers and selection of marking personnel.
• Supervision of marking proper and all marking secretariats.

• Subjects available at the GCE O Level

The subjects below make up the list from which students or candidates for the O Level General can choose the composition of their exams. This applies to candidates in the Arts and Science departments.

Check and Download 2022 GCE results O and A Levels

Of the twenty-one subjects listed above, three have a component for practical. In other words, at the ordinary level, nineteen subjects are composed of two papers each while the three others are made of three papers each. These are Computer Science, Food and Nutrition, and Special Bilingual Education French.

The number of questions set per paper is specific to the subject. The same goes for the number of questions to be treated per paper, the scores assigned and the weightings of each paper. Despite the specifications, it should be noted that multiple-choice questions (MCQ) are imposed for paper one of all subjects. The general setting comprises fifty questions that must all be answered. 

For respect of subject standards and question setting standards, each subject has experts who have deep knowledge in the various disciplines.

Usually, all candidates who want to sit in for the Ordinary Level Examination must have completed the five-year first cycle program at the Secondary School level. In some cases, candidates who have undergone an accelerated 4 or 3-year program are allowed to sit in too. A minimum of six subjects can be registered for and must include English Language, French, and Mathematics. A maximum of eleven subjects can be registered for on condition that the eleventh subject is religious studies. English Language, French, and Mathematics are compulsory as they show proof of bilingualism and play an important role at the University Level. Candidates who previously wrote the exam and obtained a pass in at least four papers can go in for less than six subjects. Upon presentation of the previous certificate, such candidates can sit in for single subjects to complete their certificate.

• GCE O Level Registration conditions 

Candidates for Ordinary Level examinations must offer a minimum of six subjects which must comprise English Language, French, and Mathematics. However, candidates who already have a pass in at least four O-level subjects or have other equivalent qualifications may register for additional single subjects. A maximum of eleven subjects can be registered for at the Ordinary Level with Religious Studies included. Repeat candidates who did not have a pass in four subjects must register for compulsory subjects. All professing to previous pass certificates must attach photocopies of Results Slips and Certificates upon registration. 

The following are required for the registration of candidates at the various registration centers;

· Examination registration fee – 8000frs

· Fee per subject – 1000frs

· Fee per practical – 5000frs

· G3 form franking fee – 1000frs

• The GCE A Level

The Advanced Level Examinations of the General Certificate of Education marks the end of the secondary general education in Cameroon. It is taken in Upper Sixth after a two-year study program at a regular school.

The examination is broad-based and is aimed at measuring the candidate’s knowledge of the world. It measures the candidate’s capacity to think, evaluate, synthesize and apply knowledge about the subjects registered for. 

The examination is open to external candidates who hold a pass certificate in at least four subjects at the GCE Ordinary Level. Candidates are permitted to sit for the exam as many times as wished so long as no fraud is involved.

GCE A Level registration conditions

Candidates sitting in for the Advanced Level examination could do so for a maximum of five subjects. The following conditions must be respected;

• Candidates must be holders of at least four subjects at the Cameroon General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level with pass grades.
• Candidates who hold an Ordinary Level General Certificate of Education from the University of London with pass grades in at least four subjects are eligible.
• Holders of a Teacher Grade II Certificate can apply.
• Holders of R.S.A stage II certificate in a minimum of four subjects.
• Holders of certificates termed equivalent by the competent authority may register.

The following expenses are requested for registration;

• Examination registration fee – 9000frs
• Fee per subject – 2000frs
• Fee per practical – 5000frs
• G3 form franking fee – 1000frs

A message from the registrar of the Cameroon GCE Board DANG AKUH Dominic,

On behalf of the GCE Board, the Registrar placed on record, his appreciation to the institutions/individuals below whose devotion contributed to the timely organization of the June GCE examinations:

1. SEEPD Bamenda who facilitated the work of the Board with the provision of an automatic brailling machine. Over the years, it has greatly eased the brailling of questions for visually impaired candidates.
2. All Principals of Secondary School, Regional and Divisional Delegates of Secondary Education, all invigilators, Superintendents, and Invigilators of Practical Examinations.
3. All Lead Examiners, Assessors, Assistant Chief Examiners, Chief Examiners, and Examiners of the June session.
4. Principals of Schools which served as Marking Centres in the South West. Special gratitude goes to all Centre Authorities who made available their institutions for Marking. These centers include GHS Limbe, PCSS Buea, GHS Bokwaongo-Buea, BHS Buea, BGS Molyko, GTHS Buea, and GBHS Limbe.
5. The current staff of the GCE Board for their determination, integrity, loyalty, and assiduity, in their activities.
6. To all candidates: the Board extends its sincere congratulations to all candidates who successfully made it. This particularly goes to teachers, parents, principals, and boards of governors/ management boards of the candidates. All unsuccessful candidates are urged to draw inspiration from their failure and put in more effort for the next GCE examination session.

Finally, the Board expressed great esteem and appreciation to the government who through financial allocations facilitated the activities of the Board throughout the academic year.
